Location : Amed – Bali
Amed Dive Sites: A Little Known Treasure. Amed has remained a small village in the northeast coastal region of Bali, with dry volcanic rock ridges along its coastline. It is about 10 km south of Tulamben Bay, at Culik regency; there is cemeluk Bay with black volcanic sandy beach The Amed dive sites actually stretch along the coast from Amed village (muck site) to Jemeluk and Bunutan, and beyond to Lipah Bay (“Japanese Wreck” site).
Beyond this bay further east some more diving points Bunutan Reef and Lipah Reef, Bali’s eastern most point. Diving Amed is amazing, not many people go there for diving which is a shame as its as beautiful as the other diving locations in Bali, like Tulamben and Padang Bai, Diving Amed is a easy dive site for all levels and ages.
When Diving Amed you can either dive from the shore or jump on a small junkung and about 5-10 minutes be at the other beautiful dive sites.
It is not only divers who can experience the amazing underwater life here – walk just a few meters off the shore with your snorkel and flippers and you’ll feel like you have walked into the film set of Finding Nemo – there are beautiful, bright, colourful fish and all sorts of rich marine life to discover.
And what’s surprising is that the vibrant coral is so close to the shoreline (you can easily spend a whole day here).
Coastal reef, deep drop-off (three walls), shallow wreck, macro dives.
3 hours from Nusa Dua by car and we leave at 8.00 AM. A small traditional outrigger boat (Jukung) take us to the walls, possible to start direct from the beach on other dive sites (Cafe Garam, Japanese wreck).
Coral Reef State:
Great variety of hard corals although a warming event and crown of thorn starfish did some damage a few years ago.
Huge variety of tropical reef fish: grouper, trigger, scorpion and parrot fish, moray eels, if lucky we may see small reef sharks, napoleons and turtles.
None or very mild, it easy dive site, perfect conditions for beginners.
25m+ (June-October). Very good for snorkeling.
No diving after heavy rain (December-March).
Excellent for macro photography; tunicates, anemone, ghost pipe fish.
